Skip Stefansen named NAC Board President; new Board members added

The NAC Annual Membership meeting at SBU/EXPO in Anaheim included the election of Skip Stefansen as the new NAC Board President. Stefansen, executive vice president of Liberto Management Company, San Antonio, TX, has been involved in the concessions industry for over 30 years. The election also named Gary Horvath of Leisure and Recreation Consulting, Bethel, CT, as president elect. Both will serve two-year terms.

Stefansen’s participation on the NAC Board started in 1985 when he was elected as Regional Vice President for the Pacific Southwest region. He has served as treasurer and president elect for the association, served on the Executive Committee, and has acted as the Snack Bar University program chair for the past two years.

In 1992, Stefansen was awarded the association’s highest honor, the Bert Nathan Memorial Award. This annual award is given in recognition of a member’s endeavor to promote the professionalism of the concessions industry, as well as for leadership in the association.

Stefansen began his career in concessions selling candy for the Roy J. Allen Company. In 1983 he joined Metropolitan Theatres as director of concessions, and in 1986 was named president of Metropolitan Concessions (now Metropolitan Provisions) in Industry, California.

Stefansen joined the Liberto Management Company, San Antonio, Texas, as executive vice president in 1998. Stefansen and his wife Linda live in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. He has three daughters: Nikki, Kjersten and Adriane.

Gary Horvath, NAC’s new president elect, joined the NAC board in 1988 as a director. Before forming his own consulting company, Horvath was president of Service America Corp.’s Recreational Services division for ten years. He has been active in promoting the educational aspects of the association.

Outgoing NAC president Norman Chesler, Theatre Candy Distributing, Salt Lake City, moves to the chairman of the board position. Bruce Proctor, The Proctor Companies, Littleton, CO, moves from a director position to vice president. Proctor and Great Lakes Regional Vice President and chair of the regional committee John Evans Jr., Gold Medal Products Company, Cincinnati, OH, will join the executive committee. Also joining the board as directors are Ralph Ferber, Great Western Products, Hollywood, AL; and Robert Scribner, Scribner & Associates, Fair Oaks Ranch, TX. Ron Naslund, Metropolitan Provisions, Industry, CA, joins the board as regional vice president for the Pacific Southwest Region, replacing Wally Helton, United Artists Theatre Circuit, Englewood, CO. Helton will remain as chair of the association’s Member Benefits/Internet Committee.
