J.C. Evans Sr. of Gold Medal Products Company became the newest recipient of NACs Bert Nathan Memorial Award on March 8 at the ShoWest convention in Las Vegas. The award was presented by NAC President Skip Stefansen during the Nestle breakfast and NAC business session.
In receiving the award, Evans was honored for his significant accomplishments and longevity in the concessions industry, his contributions to the industrys development and professionalism, and his leadership and active participation in NAC. The associations highest honor, the award is named for the late Bert Nathan, a past president and great supporter of the association and a leader in the industry.
Evans grew up in the concession equipment and supply industry, starting with summer jobs at Gold Medal Products in the late 1940s while still in high school. After graduation from college and a two-year tour of duty with the Counter Intelligence Corp in the U.S. Army in Europe, he returned to the company as a salesman. He was subsequently promoted to sales manager, vice president, and currently, chairman.
Since the late 1950s he has conducted well over 300 seminars from an hour to two days on the subject of "How to Make Money with Snacks." He has also had dozens of articles published on concessions topics.
He was a member of the NAC Board of Directors for 14 years, serving as a director and regional vice president. He was also active in chairing membership recruitment campaigns and representing the association through speaking engagements.
He is a deacon and elder in his church, and has been a multiple-term councilman
on his community village council. Married to Barbara, he is the father of four
children, and grandfather to six.
